Tirta Empul Temple

Water is a sacred element for Balinese. They believe that during corpus ablution soul is being purified. Everyone who was born at the island honors water above all things. So it is now wonder that sacred spring Tirta Empul is one of the most respected places on Bali. Here water comes out from the ground in the form of small geysers. Wonderful, incomparable sight.

 In support of the holiness of this place, ancient people built a temple around the spring. Its façade is decorated with Balinese traditional wood and stone carving. Temple walls over the course of history keep ancient sculptures of gods: Shiva, Brahma and Vishna.

 In a little shady pond at the territory of the temple one can see orfs. These fishes, like all other thing at this place, are sacred. But surprisingly it is possible to feed them.
